The Institute of forest management and applied Geoinformatics provides teaching of guaranteed subjects of Bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies and the development of knowledge of guaranteed disciplines through research activities in cooperation with practice. The core subjects include forest management (HUL), Dendrometry, Statistics, forest growth Science, Geodesy and land records, Geoinformation systems (GIS), Remote Sensing (DPZ), analysis and decision support in GIS, Forestry thematic cartography and others. The importance of the Institute’s activities is mainly in the field of analysis and data processing from the point of view of natural and human-influenced risks and subsequent management of forest stands in the landscape. Practical exercises are conducted in specialized classrooms and in the field. The institute has accredited two doctoral study programs: applied Geoinformatics and forest management.
History
The Institute of forest management and Geoinformation Technologies is based on a long tradition of founding Institutes of the then University of Agriculture in Brno in 1919. In particular, it was the Institute of forest management, which was established in 1920 and existed independently since 1951, and the Institute of Geodesy, founded in 1921. The current Institute of forest management and applied Geoinformatics was established in 2014 by the merger of the former Institute of forest management and the Institute of Geoinformation technologies.
Present
The Institute of economic management and applied Geoinformatics is currently profiling and focusing on the development and interconnection of guaranteed disciplines in the form of so-called precision Forestry, which synthesizes elements of forest management (HUL) with links to applied Geoinformatics technologies in a number of forestry activities, where modern Geoinformation technologies (GIT) play an important role. The Institute guarantees the teaching of 20 compulsory, 6 compulsory elective and one optional subject within the framework of five Bachelor’s and five master’s degree programmes.
